I love to help authors take their manuscripts from good to excellent! I offer the following services:
Developmental Editing
Copyediting
Proofreading
Cover Letters and Synopses
I have an MFA in writing for children and young adults and a certificate in picture book writing from the Vermont College of Fine Arts. I edit picture books, chapter books, middle grade, young adult, women’s fiction, and romance novels. I am best at editing contemporary realism; fantasy, science fiction, and other genre fiction is best with another editor.
I’m happy to work with you to create a package that fits your budget and needs.
“One of the primary things I look for in a copy editor is someone I can trust. After spending countless hours writing and rewriting a book, I don’t want to have it fall into the hands of some unscrupulous editor. I trust Rachel. In order to trust an editor, you also have to like them. And what’s not to like about Rachel? She’s fun, witty and personable. And as an editor I’ve found her critiques to be constructive, helpful and collaborative. Plus, she’s experienced. She has a master’s degree in professional writing, and I happen to know she’s well-read because I’m friends with her on Goodreads. You get all this at a reasonable price, too.” —Julia Wear-Jackson, Children’s Book Author
“I worked with Rachel on a query letter and first pages after winning a pitch competition. Not only is Rachel a highly competent editor, she provided feedback on where the story lagged, pointed out where characters needed more background, and helped me rein in sections that had too much detail. I feel her work was instrumental in the agent requesting more of my manuscript, and I’m excited to work with her again on the next steps for this manuscript. Rachel is a gem!” —Nala Henkel-Aislinn, Romance Author
“Rachel does an excellent job in seeing the overall picture; plot, character, and setting. She is skillful at identifying the heart of the story, what’s working and what’s not working. She points out areas to tighten word count and make stronger word choices. Rachel’s feedback is professional, concise, and helpful. I would highly recommend her!” —Mark Ceilley, Children’s Book Author
